Head Coach Paul Rowley speaks to the press ahead of St.Helens' visit to Hull KR on Friday night.
This coming weekend will be the Super League’s 30th birthday, and Rowley reflected on how the game has evolved, whilst noting that the fundamentals remain the same. Changes in athleticism and rule interpretations continue to shape how matches are played. He believes the competition has become increasingly tight and unpredictable, with small margins often deciding outcomes.
Hull KR’s mixed start to the season has not altered Rowley’s view of the Super League and World Club champions. He highlighted their demanding schedule to the start of this campaign, but knows to expect a highly motivated opponent looking to respond on home soil for the first time in the season.
Saints remain without several key players, with injuries continuing to test the squad’s depth. Rowley confirmed another long-term setback with Jake Burns, sadly suffering an ankle injury which occurred from the head knock at Castleford; he will also sadly require surgery. However, the Saints boss praised his team’s ability to adapt, highlighting the performances of those stepping in and maintaining high standards.
With a strong sense of unity throughout the group, with players and staff contributing both on and off the field, the Red V have continued to play with intent and a willingness to be brave with the ball.
With a demanding away trip ahead, Rowley insists the focus remains firmly on performance rather than outside narratives, and he expects another physical contest but is confident his side can compete if they maintain their standards and continue to build on recent performances.
