St.Helens’ are currently on a winning run of five matches in all competitions. Two of those victories came at the Home of the Saints – the BrewDog Stadium – against Leigh Leopards and Bradford Bulls, and then away wins over Catalans Dragons, Castleford Tigers in the Challenge Cup, and the latest win over Toulouse Olympique.
At the Stade Ernest-Wallon in France, St.Helens performed brilliantly in the first half, despite being down at least 12 senior players due to injury or suspension.
Willie Peters’ team enjoyed their best-ever season in 2025, certainly in the modern era of rugby league. The Robins have also earned their first-ever World title in February in a thriller against NRL premiers Brisbane Broncos at Hull FC’s home ground, the MKM Stadium.
However, their league form has been a little up and down, starting the campaign with a narrow defeat against newly promoted York Knights, and losing heavily to Leeds Rhinos in Las Vegas. Hull KR have beaten Huddersfield in both the league and the Cup, but last Saturday night they lost to Catalans Dragons at the Stade Gilbert Brutus. East Hull will no doubt welcome the Saints with their vocal hostility, so our men can expect a fiery atmosphere as the Robins look to return to winning ways.
If the Saints needed any extra motivation, the last meeting between the two clubs was, of course, last year’s Betfred Super League Semi-Final, which saw the hosting Robins get the win. However, further fuel to our fire would be the run of defeats we have suffered at the hands of Hull KR, having now not beaten them since the 2023 season.
