Saints lock in Lewis Murphy with extension

St.Helens R.F.C. is delighted to announce that winger Lewis Murphy has signed a new three-year contract extension with the Club!

Accord Legal Services Ltd proudly sponsors Lewis Murphy.

The 24-year-old joined the Saints ahead of the 2025 season on a two-year deal, with this new contract ensuring he will remain in the famous Red V until at least the end of the 2029 campaign.

Our speedy finisher has played 18 times for St.Helens, scoring 11 tries for a points total of 44 to date so far.

Murphy’s move back home to the UK came following a year in Australia as part of the Sydney Roosters’ NRL squad, playing in the New South Wales Cup. Before his time Down Under, Lewis made his breakthrough at Wakefield Trinity, where he began his journey as a professional player in the Trin’s youth ranks. In Wakefield’s First Team ranks, he scored an impressive 19 tries in just 21 match appearances.

Saints’ fans first saw his try-scoring ability in person when the wingman ran riot in a match at our home ground in 2022, scoring an astounding four times.

‘Murph’ was unfortunately limited due to injuries in his first season at the Club, but showed remarkable promise, with some brilliant scoring finishes. This season, he has taken his chance again, scoring twice in away matches against Castleford and Toulouse, and grabbed his first home try of the year in our Challenge Cup Quarter-Final victory over Catalans.

A very happy Lewis Murphy spoke to saintsrlfc.com about the news and said: “I’m very excited, it’s a good moment for my family and me, so I am very grateful.

“I’ve enjoyed being here a lot. I’ve had some tough moments, but every day at training, there is always someone here making the day a good one.”

Driven to have a consistent run of matches for St.Helens, Murphy is touched by the Club’s belief in him as a player.

“It means a lot. I’m going to show them that they made the right decision.”

Head Coach Paul Rowley is thrilled to retain Murphy in his squad for the future, and added: “Murph is a fantastic lad, a real athlete, and a finisher. He can do things that other players can’t, so he is exactly what we want in the team.

“I think he is a really strong signing for the Club, both for now and for the future.

“We all see how much he cares for the environment he is in, for our club, and whilst he has had a period where he has been very unfortunate with injuries, we are hoping that he has better luck after this latest one. We want him to have a clear run and show everybody why inside the Club we value him so highly.”
