Head Coach Paul Rowley gives his reaction following his St.Helens side's 18-26 win over Huddersfield Giants on the road.
Admitting that the Saints were pleased to get the win over Huddersfield, Rowley felt the team’s performance dropped after a strong first half.
The Saints built a commanding 24-0 lead before the break and looked in control, but he felt that the Giants were at their best once the match became chaotic, with the Saints contributing to the chaos with errors.
Our coach also felt the stop-start nature of the second half made for a frustrating watch, with several video referee checks and stoppages breaking up the flow of the game. He said the contest lacked rhythm and atmosphere after the break, particularly compared to the Saints’ strong opening half.
Rowley stressed that the most important thing was getting back to winning ways following our Challenge Cup exit at the semi-final stage. He was also keen to dismiss the idea that Saints should simply expect to “win well”.
