St Helens R.F.C. confirms that prop forward Agnatius Paasi has left the Club. The Saints would like to extend our best wishes to ‘Iggy’ and his family in their next chapter and thank him for his service.
Agnatius Paasi has been proudly sponsored by Halton & St Helens Voluntary & Community Action.
The powerful Tongan prop joined the Saints from NRL side New Zealand Warriors in November 2020 ahead of the 2021 season.
During his six seasons in the Red V, he helped our club earn two Super League titles, a Challenge Cup, and a World Club Challenge trophy.
Paasi played 112 times for St.Helens, scoring 40 points via ten tries, the latest two of which came this season in back-to-back away wins over Castleford and Toulouse.
Saints supporters will be given their chance to thank Paasi for his time in the Red V at our next home fixture against Warrington Wolves on Thursday, 11th June at the BrewDog Stadium. ‘Iggy’ and his family will be invited to receive his official Saints Heritage Number Certificate at half-time of the match.
In a heartfelt message, Agnatius Paasi said: “I’d just like to thank the Club, all the players and coaching staff for taking me on. I couldn’t be happier after coming over at the right time and helping the Club achieve what we did. The memories we made, I’ll never forget. Hopefully, in ten or twenty years time, we can come together and reminisce about those days.
“To the fans, it’s truly been a blessing to witness the love that me and my family have received over the six seasons I have spent here. Some ups and downs, but I know the fans always show up through thick and thin, and I can honestly say that St Helens will always be my home away from home.”
St.Helens R.F.C. Chairman Eamonn McManus added: “Iggy played a prominent role in Grand Final and World Club Challenge victories and in our success generally in those years, and we will always remember and thank him for that.
“His career at the Club was blighted by the horrific injury he suffered in 2023 in the Challenge Cup semi-final, but he never ceased to give his best after he returned from a long absence.
“He has and his family have settled firmly into the St Helens community, and we wish them every happiness and success in the future.”
