St.Helens Women will start their Super Four campaign against fierce rivals Wigan Warriors Women on Thursday evening, and the match will double as the Portico Vine's Community Club Takeover!
It’s a double-header at the BrewDog Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 5:15pm for the Saints Women against Wigan, followed by the Men’s team taking on Hull FC!
Focusing on the Super Fourย kick-off,ย this new stage of the Betfred Women’s Super League will determine this yearโs Grand Finalists, with the team finishing top of the table earning automatic qualification and home advantage for the Grand Final.
The sides finishing second and third will then meet in a play-off, hosted by the second-placed team, to determine who will face the League Leadersโ Shield winners in the Grand Final.
The Warriors come to our ground in strong form, top of the Super League table and are yet to be beaten in 2026. However, Saints will be eager to lay down a marker as they begin the next stage of their campaign in front of the Saints faithful at home.
Saints Women and Wigan have met twice already this season; the Warriors won the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley with a 54-6 victory that truly stung. St.Helens responded with a much-improved performance in Round 6, fighting to the very end away at Edge Hall Road, but the hosts narrowly held on for a 32-28 win.
๐ COMMUNITY CLUB TAKEOVER – PORTICO VINEWe’re committed to the continued growth of the St.Helens Women’s youth development and to developing young female players for the Saints. Our Women’s youth programme now includes the Under-15s Pathway To Performance (P2P) and our Academy Under-19s team. Along with RFL Girls Talent Hubs, Girls Development Camps (Years 7-11) and the RugBees initiative (ages 7-11) with the Saints Community Development Foundation.
In recent seasons, St.Helens Women have been proud to see players come through our youth system to become Women’s First Team Saints players, showing there is a pathway for aspiring talents. Young girls can follow in the footsteps of Saints such as Alyx Bridge, Olivia Leach, Luci McColm, Erin McDonald, or Katie Mottershead, to name just a few.
However, without the hard work of so many people who are involved in local community rugby league clubs, the Saints Women’s youth programme would not be possible. So, throughout the 2026 Women’s Rugby League season, each home fixture at the BrewDog Stadium for St.Helens Women will also double as a Community Club Takeover.
Portico Vine are our takeover team this week!
As part of their experience for the Community Club Takeover, young aspiring players from Portico will:
- Be official team mascots for the Betfred Women’s Super League – Super Four fixture against Wigan Warriors and will walk about with the teams ahead of the game.
- Make up our official ball crew for the duration of the fixture.
- Conduct the coin toss in the tunnel alongside the Match Officials.
- As well as choose the Women’s Player of the Match, to be announced too!
Portico Vine have been brilliant supporters of the SCDF RugBees Programme across the last 3 seasons, hosting many sessions at their fantastic community facility at Scholes Lane and using this to build excitement ahead of launching their new girls section in 2026.
Portico have delivered an Under-11s girls team this season for the first time, after a lot of hard work and dedication from many committed volunteers, including Cath Lee who has spearheaded the new girls team.
ย Itโs great to have another club in the town where girls can continue their rugby league journeys playing for an all-girls team after the age of 11 that will no doubt create Saints stars of the future.
Weโre really excited to celebrate all the hard work done by Portico as our Community Club Take Over for the Wigan game.
