St.Helens R.F.C. has signed Tongan international outside back Christian Tuipulotu on a three-year deal!
The 25-year-old joins the Saints ahead of the 2027 season from NRL side St George Illawarra Dragons, where he has played for the last three seasons.
The 6-foot-1 New Zealander made his senior debut in 2020 with the Sydney Roosters, scoring against Melbourne Storm, before joining Manly Sea Eagles for three seasons. During his NRL career, he has made 63 appearances and scored 33 tries.
Born in New Zealand, Tuipulotu has Tongan heritage and was selected to represent Mate Ma’a Tonga against the Kiwis in 2022, making his international debut.
Tuipulotu becomes the second recruit ahead of the 2027 season under new Head Coach Kevin Walters, with Solomona Faataape also set to join the Saints.
Speaking to saintsrlfc.com, Christian Tuipulotu said: “I’m very excited! I know a few of the boys already, and I know the Club has got such a long and storied history. I’m pumped to come and add to the team. It’s going to be a big change for my partner and me, but I’m really looking forward to it.”
As a Tongan international, Tuipulotu follows in the footsteps of fellow Mate Ma’a players such as Agnatius Paasi, Konrad Hurrell and Will Hopoate in playing for the Saints.
“I spoke to Koni [Hurrell], and he was just telling me about the place and how good of a club St.Helens is. After speaking to him, it made me even more excited to come over, but he did say it’s going to be cold, though!”
Tuipulotu is relishing the idea of working under new Head Coach Kevin Walters.
“Kevin’s played and coached at some of the best teams in the world. I’ve got no doubt he’s going to be great at St.Helens, and I’m excited to learn off him, pick his brains, and be part of it.”
On what he wants to bring to the Saints, Tuipulotu said: “I want to bring my passion to the team and give our boys energy when I’m playing. I love seeing the fans happy and knowing that the team is putting in a good performance.
“I’m going to give my best, carry hard and do my job. Hopefully, we can add some more silverware to the cabinet, and I can’t wait to meet you all.”
