St.Helens Head Coach Paul Rowley spoke to the press in France following his side's 16-30 victory over Toulouse Olympique.
The Saints boss was pleased with both the result and performance as his side secured a convincing win over Toulouse Olympique, but admitted there was still room for improvement.
Saints were dominant in the first half, building a strong lead of 0-28 with disciplined defence and sharp attacking play; however, Rowley felt his side didn’t quite maintain that same intensity in the second half. That allowed Toulouse to come back into the contest, and he credited the hosts’ response, noting that they became more dangerous as the game went on.
Despite ongoing disruption caused by injuries, Rowley praised the character of his squad and their commitment to his style of play. He highlighted how the group continues to show effort, regardless of who is available or not.
On a night where our younger players were asked to step up once more, all wanted to do so confidently when called upon. Rowley also praised the influence of the available senior figures within the team, helping guide the group through challenging periods.
Injury concerns remain an issue, with another man now missing due to George Whitby’s failed Head Injury Assessment in the game against the French side. The St.Helens Head Coach admitted the situation is becoming increasingly tough, but stressed the importance of embracing it and continuing to adapt. With our players gradually working their way back and the squad continuing to respond positively, we remain focused on building as the season progresses.
