Head Coach Paul Rowley spoke to the press ahead of St.Helens' trip to Castleford Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
The Saints head into Round 12 at the top of the table, but Rowley insisted there is no sense of getting carried away inside the camp. Our Head Coach was clear in stating that the team’s focus remains firmly on continuing to do their job week by week, with the league position simply a reflection of results earned so far and was not something to celebrate this early in the season.
On a good run of form in the league, the Red V are in a good position as we approach the halfway point of the campaign. While Rowley admitted there is still plenty of improvement, he felt the group have handled adversity well, without making excuses.
Ahead of the trip to ‘The Jungle’, Rowley was keen to point out the threat that Castleford can provide, particularly on their own, hostile ground. Added into that, Rowley is well aware that Castleford’s attack can trouble any side when they are at their best.
There was positive injury updates ahead of the weekend’s game, on the back of Curtis Sironen’s return to action in the last round, Mark Percival is set to feature following an injury lay-off for a few weeks, and Noah Stephens is also fit to be selected as well after following return-to-play protocols after a failed HIA (Head Injury Assessment) from the Challenge Cup semi-final.
Nene Macdonald is at least another week away for being back to fully fit as he continues his recovery from knee surgery. Jacob Host is edging ever closer to rejoining the squad in training following his broken leg.
