Bill Leyland wrote himself into St.Helens folklore with his astonishing two-try appearance for the Saints in the traditional Good Friday Derby against Wigan Warriors.
It was one of the great comebacks in Super League history when Paul Rowley’s team, down on at least twelve senior players, overturned a 10-24 scoreline in the final eight minutes to win 34-24.
The hooker was drafted in on a short-term loan due to our squad being so stretched, and what happened on the day for Leyland and the Saints was as Sky Sports’ commentator described it “beyond the realms of fiction”.
April saw star winger Leah Burke return to St. Helens Women’s action after a year out due to an ACL injury sustained in the 2024 Women’s Super League Grand Final. The Saints’ #5 scored against Huddersfield Giants in her first game back, a wonderful moment for her and all involved with the Saints Women.
However, it was her remarkable finish against Catalans Dragons at home where she took the ball off her own try line and took it 100 metres to score at the other end! Watch that brilliant Burke try below.
