Academy product Jack Campbell enjoyed a dream St.Helens and Super League debut, scoring two tries to help an injury-hit Saints side to a 34-18 victory over Catalans Dragons. Jack spoke to Saints TV after the game.
Campbell reflected on an unforgettable evening, admitting the opportunity came as a surprise. Initially called into the squad, the young outside-back revealed he received a phone call from Head Coach Paul Rowley at 11:30am on Friday morning to tell him he would be starting on the wing.
He described it as a proud moment to make his First Team debut. Capping his first appearance with two tries made the occasion even more special, with the youngster admitting it was something he could only have dreamed of.
Jack also spoke about how much it meant to score his first senior tries in front of the Saints faithful at the BrewDog Stadium, paying tribute to the supporters for the backing they gave him throughout the evening.
Looking back on the victory, Campbell highlighted the resilience shown by a Saints side missing a number of senior players, believing the team’s determination was key to securing an important two points to bounce back from last week’s disappointment.
