Rush: Outstanding!

MIKE Rush has spoken of how “outstanding” Saints’ defence was during their win over Warrington on Saturday.

He compared the performance that saw his side ease to a 28-6 win as “up there” with the best this season.

“Defensively we were outstanding,” he said. “We were playing a quality side with players such as Hodgson, Myler, Ratchford and Briers and to withstand 18 sometimes 20 tackles on our own goal line is a reflection of the determination this club has.

“That was also shown in our forwards. People have questioned them this season and tonight they showed they are capable of matching the best and being physical. We never doubted it but when we question the players, they take it and come back stronger and hopefully a little better.”

One of the hubs of that pack was Sia Soliola who returned after sitting out the win over Wigan.

“I’m not sure Sia knew where he was playing when he came on! He was so determined to get to the field and charge around at 3000 miles an hour!

“We got caught out a little on their first try – we didn’t get our numbering up right, but that might be over critical. As a player the Club and town couldn’t ask anything else of him.

“Tommy Makinson has been good all year too and we’re disappointed he hasn’t made the Knights. But that does give him something to aim for.

“I was also pleased with Jonny Lomax too. He did really well for Makinson’s second. When he got to the full back I wondered what he was doing but a quick side step and he put Makinson in.”
