VE Day 80th Anniversary: The Saints Remember

In remembrance of all who served during the Second World War, on the 80th Anniversary of the end of the war in Europe, St.Helens R.F.C. gathered for a memorial event.

Alongside Veterans of the Saints Community Development Foundation, and friends of St Helens Cemetery, the Saints First Team and coaching staff were joined by Club staff and representatives from across our various teams and departments.

The event was held in the Veterans Garden in St Helens Cemetery, which is managed by the Veterans of the Foundation. The garden itself is dedicated to all those Veterans, irrespective of their nationality or belief, who served in their country’s armed forces and now lays at rest in the cemetery.

This VE Day 2025 memorial event was led by St.Helens’ Club Chaplain and Wellbeing Manager Paul Johnson was in remembrance of those who fought for our freedom, and the millions of people who sadly made the ultimate sacrifice to bring peace.

We will remember them.

Following the event, the Veterans of the Foundation headed to the Thompson Centre. The Veterans have breakfast every Thursday at the venue, with today being a day to remember all those we lost 80 years ago, and acknowledge their sacrifice.
