For a second successive year, St.Helens R.F.C. was delighted to welcome the 1st Battalion the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment to our Cowley Training Facility.
Ahead of the Saints’ Armed Forces Day fixture at the Totally Wicked Stadium which takes place on Sunday, 29th June – members of our Coaching Staff gave our friends from the 1 Lancs Regiment a full day in the life of a professional rugby league player.
The experience doubled as preparation for the 1 Lancs Rugby League team’s ‘War of the Roses’ clash against The Royal Yorkshire Regiment as part of British Armed Forces’ big rugby league weekend which takes place in Warrington this coming weekend at Crosfields ARLFC.
Saints TV went behind the scenes of the day, and spoke to Saints Coaches Matt Daniels & Craig Richards, as well as Lance Corporal Herny Smart to find out more about the day.
The insightful day for both the 1 Lancs Regiment and our Saints staff was the latest collaboration project between our Club and the Battalion, who we have worked with on a Pre-Season camp in Cyrpus at their base in 2024.
As Daniels and Richards state, this coming weekend as part of our Armed Forces Day fixture, it is an opportunity for us as a club to show our appreciation to our armed forces for their incredible service, with activities going on around the ground such as:
- Royal Marines are returning to the Totally Wicked Stadium
- Veterans Parade & Guard of Honour – including Veterans of the Foundation
- Representatives of other local armed forces branches
- The British Army obstacle course will also be located opposite the Red V Bar
