It’s a double header at the home of the Saints, with both our Men’s and Women’s team taking on Huddersfield Giants. Both teams are out to make it a league double over the West Yorkshire side, after earning away victories earlier in the season.
Our First Team Saints head into this Round 21 clash in good form after earning a commanding win over Wakefield Trinity at the DIY Kitchens Stadium last Friday night. That result moved the Red V back into fourth spot in the Betfred Super League table, as the Play-Offs race continues to heat up, with the sides in the top six all jockeying for position.
Huddersfield have struggled with injuries and consistency in 2025, but having knocked off Hull FC a couple of weeks ago in arguably their biggest win of the season, as well as Warrington and Castleford in recent weeks, they come to our stadium looking to build on that momentum.
Paul Wellens is holding his weekly press conference this afternoon, where he will give the latest news on his St.Helens squad. Saints TV subscribers will be able to watch it in full.
SQUAD NEWS
Coach Wellens makes two changes to the squad that was victorious over Wakefield Trinity last week, with Curtis Sironen and Jake Wingfield coming out of the side.
Sironen failed a Head Injury Assessment and must now follow the return to play protocols. Wingfield sadly suffered an ankle injury in the match against the Trin which saw him need to be helped off the field. Wellens has revealed that Wingfield will require surgery, which is expected to keep him out for seven to nine weeks.
The Red V have two returnees back in the 21-man squad though, with Jack Welsby and Deon Cross included for the game against the Giants.
Welsby suffered a knee injury at the end of May which saw him need to have surgery and it was expected to keep him out for 16 weeks. However, the Saints’ #1 has been working tirelessly on his rehabilitation and has managed to get himself back available for selection ahead of schedule.
Outside back Cross at the start of July had a foot ligament issue, and is also back available for selection. He did play for the Saints Reserves in their final match of the season against Bradford on Thursday night too.
