St.Helens R.F.C. is thrilled to confirm that Jake Burns has signed a new two-year contract extension, keeping him in the Red V until at least the end of the 2027 season!

The 25-year-old has been with the Club since January 2022, joining on an initial three-month trial. After impressing in the Reserves, he was kept on for the remainder of the year and was named St.Helens’ Reserves Player of the Year in his first season as a Saint.
In 2023, ‘Burnsy’ began training with the First Team and went on loan to North Wales Crusaders. He started for the Welsh club during their remarkable run to the Betfred League One Play-Off Final, winning three knockout fixtures in a row after finishing the regular season in sixth place.
Continuing to develop into a promising young talent, Jake officially joined our First Team from the 2024 season. In July 2024, he made his Super League debut at home against Castleford and scored his first top-flight tries back-to-back in his second senior appearance away at Hull FC.
In 2024 and 2025, Burns featured in 10 First Team matches each year, giving him a total of 20 appearances, alongside five tries for a total of 20 points. He has also been a senior figure in our Reserves, and in 2025 he captained our young development side.
Jake Burns said to saintsrlfc.com: “I’m thankful for every opportunity I get to play for St.Helens. Hopefully, I can keep building on the past two years and do well for the Club in the next two.
“I’m very competitive. I just want to win in whatever game it is, and I’ll be looking to do that and put my best foot forward.”
Serving somewhat as an understudy to some highly experienced Saints, Burns is ready to step up and become a more important player in our squad. Alongside his personal goals, the hooker believes our team can build towards bringing home trophies.
“I’ve learned a lot from Daz [Daryl Clark] and Mo [Moses Mbye], and now I want to put it more into practice next season.
“My goal is just to play as many games as possible and build on my experience. I want to get consistent game time and keep improving.
“I definitely think we can build on this year, too. We reached the Semi-Final, but I know the team we’ve got can go even further.”
As we start the march towards the new season, and with Memberships for 2026 now on sale, Jake Burns thanked our supporters for all the support he and the rest of the team receive.
