St Helens Women
18 | Rachael Woosey
Centre, Wing, Full Back
A regular on the terraces at Knowsley Road, Rachel was a childhood Saints fan and idolised the likes of Jamie Lyon and Paul Wellens. Introduced to the sport by her mum taking her to watch the games, it was her dad that got her playing rugby, however, it was rugby union that she originally played.
She returned to St. Helens to work as a sports coach while playing rugby union for Loughborough Lightning, but in 2019 an offer came to switch codes and play League for her hometown club, but with the cancellation of the 2020 Women’s Super League, the switch didn’t happen.
An offer again came through for the 2021 season and there was no hesitation from Rachel to join. She made a try-scoring debut against Bradford in the first game of the season and only continued to progress in the game, going on to score 12 tries in 12 appearances, winning every trophy on offer.
Woosey departed the club at the end of 2022 and headed to Sale Sharks. However, on 4th March 2024, Saints announced that Rachael had re-joined the club for the 2024 season. Woosey will wear shirt number 30 this time around in the Red V.
