Foundation Tour Update – Day 12, 13 & 14

26th Oct 2009, 11:11am

THE latest from the Foundation Academy’s Tour Of Australia, sponsored by Hattons Solicitors.

Day 12: It is the day before the Cronulla game and the players had their tour team photo taken at the Sydney Cricket Ground – the home of some of the greatest test matches. The lads have the famous long photo taken in the same style as the old touring teams of the 60 and 70s.

After the photo we trained outside the cricket ground, which is the home of the Sydney swans (AFL). They then went on to Coggee Beach and then back into town for a walk round the rock markets.

Day 13: The lads were fantastic in their effort against Cronulla but on recent performances lacked the skill needed to get over a very good Cronulla side.

Day 14: Today was a day off for players and we went to the Olympic site for a couple of hours of white water rafting. Every single player and staff agreed that this activity is one of the most exciting we undertake away from the games.

Once again Paul Leyland was the star of the show with his own way of going down the water without a paddle or a boat.

The staff boat of Purtill, Talbot, Mitchell, Leyland, Lomax, Pennington, Frodsham and Walsh spent more time in the water than on the boat and at one stage couldn't even paddle for laughing.

Incidentally, the best comment of the last few days:

Danny Wakefield and Danny Hunter swapped paddles believing there were left and right paddles.

Tomorrow is back to the field and gym with two field sessions and a gym session.

Again many thanks to all the sponsors and support we have had to make this a once in a life time experience for all the young players.

Game Itinerary:

October 16: Balmain -
won 38-6 (Match Report)
October 21: West Tigers (5.30pm @ Balmain) - won 18-6 (Match Report)
October 25: Cronulla Sharks (5pm @ Shark Park, Toyota Stadium) - lost 20-34 (Match Report)
October 31: Penrith (7pm @ St Mary’s)
