Matt Gidley is one of the most recognisable Rugby League players in the world. Brought in as a replacement for Jamie Lyon, the former Newcastle Knight had little difficulty adjusting to life in Superleague scored 17 tries in 33 appearances.
Gids’ only success in the NRL was a Grand Final win against Parramatta Eels in 2001. He has also played 11 State of Origin matches for New South Wales and 11 times for Australia, including the 2000 World Cup where he scored the opening try in the Old Trafford Final to set the Kangaroos on their way to victory.
He has made nearly 250 first grade appearances in his career and has great feet with excellent ball handling skills. In fact, the back flick synonymous with Lyon, was Matt’s trademark long before the ‘Sea Eagle’ wowed Saints speccies with the skill.
Matt also possesses a Masters degree in business.
