HRH the Duke of Kent visited the new home of St.Helens R.F.C. on Monday.
He was received by the Lord Mayor and escorted around the stadium by Saints’ Chairman Eamonn McManus who provided him with full details of the stadium project as well as explaining the history of the Club and the game of Rugby League.
HRH watched the team train on the pitch and was introduced to Coach Mike Rush as well as several players.
He met and chatted to members of the Saints’ staff as he visited the various facilities of Langtree Park.
Chairman, Eamonn McManus, commented: “It was an honour for us to receive HRH the Duke of Kent in the first season at Langtree Park and in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration year.
“HRH was clearly very impressed by the stadium and its facilities and showed a real interest in the history of the game and the Club.
“He was very at ease with the players and staff and thoroughly enjoyed his visit, as did we.”
