Len Hammill

IT is sad to report the passing of former Saints’ front-rower Len Hammill at St. James Hospital in Leeds on September 25.

He was 78 years of age and had been ill for some time with arthritis and heart problems.

Signed from Bramley, Len made his debut at Warrington in March 1960 and formed a front row with the likes of hooker Bob Dagnall and fellow prop Alan Prescott.

His stay at Knowsley Road was not too long, however and after eight First Team appearances, he was transferred to Featherstone Rovers, shortly after the start of the 1960-61 season, where he won Yorkshire county honours – a measure of how good a player he was.

He is survived by his second wife Joan and daughters Lynne and Jayne.
