RUGBY League World Cup 2013s official mascots ‘Grubber and Steed’ will take to the field for the first time tonight at the Probiz World Club Challenge as Leeds Rhinos look to defend their title against Melbourne Storm.
Grubber and Steed will make their debuts in front of the passionate crowd at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium where New Zealand take on Papua New Guinea and where the first quarter-final of RLWC2013 will take place.
Designs of ‘Grubber’ and ‘Steed,’ were first shown to fans at the England v France game at Salford, last November, after a competition involving over 1,000 entries from children in the UK and France.
The three winners were Emily Sixsmith, nominated by Hull; Luke James, nominated by Bolton and Sam Bithell nominated by Wigan. All three contributed elements to the overall concept of the RLWC2013 mascots.
RLWC2013 Marketing Manager, Mark Foster said: “Grubber and Steed will grab the attention of young fans and their families. Every great tournament has a great mascot and RLWC2013 will be no exception.
“We’re really pleased that the team at Leeds Rhinos have agreed to make them a part of the Probiz World Club Challenge, which is a great stage for any mascot to make his debut on.”
Grubber and Steed will be a key part of the team promoting the tournament this year appearing at schools, libraries, festivals and community events across the UK.
