SAINTS fans are obviously only too aware of the importance of matches against Wigan.
And now Nathan Brown is too.
Long before he joined the club Paul Anderson told the incoming Saints coach what the derby is all about.
“It’s my first Saints-Wigan derby and I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “When you have close towns you always have big rivalries and the matches are usually very intensive, physical and entertaining. The crowd and players enjoy it a lot and I’m sure these games will be the same in 100 years’ time.
“At Wigan you have Sean O’Loughlin, Sam Tomkins and Micky McIlorum and they are tough, competitive players who are local lads. Liam Farrell has come on too and keeps on improving. It will be a great game.”
He continued: “The Easter programme is tough on players and tough on resources at times but you just get on with it. A good Easter can move you up the league whilst a bad one can drop you down. I understand why we do it and you just have to go out there and do your best for a seven to ten day period.”
