THERE’S less than 200 days to go until the Rugby League World Cup match at Langtree Park between Australia v Fiji.
The two nations will meet on Saturday November 2 in a Pool A clash.
It will be a key part of Rugby League World Cup 2013, the next big sporting event in the UK after the Olympics.
The RLWC2013 is the pinnacle of Rugby League and will see New Zealand try to defend their title against the big guns of Australia and co-tournament hosts England and Wales.
Tickets for the game are already on sale and are going well.
With prices for 55% of the tournament at £20 or less and the cheapest tickets for this game at just £10 (£5 concessions) this is also an affordable event on the doorsteps of local fans.
Anthony Laffranchi has World Cup dreams with Italy and says the World Cup will be a massive event for St Helens..
“It excites me,” the Saints prop said. “I was privileged to be part of the RLWC in 2008 and for it to be over here in Europe and England is important for the game.
“I’ve pledged myself to Italy and I am committed to generating interest in the game. It is credit to the boys that got us through qualifying and we’re looking forward to it.
“The Rugby League World Cup is massive for the sport as it is viewed across the world and everyone can be involved.”
Council Leader Marie Rimmer added: “As we have seen from London 2012 the atmosphere of these global events are terrific. Like the Olympics I am sure this will be a truly unforgettable experience and put our borough in the international spotlight once again as did the Olympics opening ceremony and the reference to our motto Ex Terra Lucem.”
RLWC2013 General Manager, Sally Bolton said “There’s just over 200 days to go now to the start of the tournament and the key Australia v Fiji tie. Fans in St. Helens will be getting excited at seeing some of the best players in the world at the new Saints ground.
“It’s not long the stars of the international game will be here in the UK. The buzz is building around all our host towns and cities and we’re sure that will also attract some new fans to our extraordinary sport.”
