DARYL Millard believes Fiji will benefit from ‘home comforts’ provided to them at their base in Rochdale during Rugby League World Cup 2013.

The Bati face Australia at Langtree Park on November 2 (8pm) and will be based in the Lancashire town, noted for its large Fijian community, for the duration of the tournament.

“We’re based in Rochdale for the whole campaign, and one or two of the boys are looking forward to the prospect of having some home-cooked Fijian meals to eat.

“It’s a bit of a home advantage for us with all the Fijians based in Rochdale, and we’re looking forward to putting that to work in our favour for the game against Ireland, but also to help us be successful in the other matches.

“It’s good for us that the tournament’s been organised that way. It’s a massive boost for us and awesome news for all of the boys involved in the Fiji set-up.”

Fiji also face England and Ireland in Group A at Rugby League World Cup 2013, and are likely to be able to count on the presence of former Kangaroos legend Petero Civoniceva, who has pledged to represent the country of his birth following a long career with Australia, for all three games.

“He’ll bring a lot of experience and I’m pretty sure he’ll be in great shape too. He’ll be a tremendous asset to us throughout the tournament,” said Catalan Dragons centre Millard.

“I think I’m the only Super League player eligible to play for Fiji, but there are a number of guys in the NRL, as well as the Fijian domestic competition, who will play.

“Last time we had seven or eight on board from the Fijian competition, and I think there’ll be a similar number in the squad this time.

“There are a lot of talented players, particularly in the back division, and it’s very important to us that we have that representation.

“We had many domestic players representing us at the last World Cup, and I’d say that eight or nine of them went on to find contracts with clubs in Australia and elsewhere.

“They played well enough to earn that opportunity, and it’s a really good way of building the profile of Rugby League in Fiji alongside union.”
