ST.HELENS Mayor Andy Bowden invited the Thatto Heath-St.Helens Women’s Rugby League team to the Town Hall recently to officially recognise their achievement in winning the Women’s Challenge Cup, writes Laura Birchall.
He stated: “St.Helens has a long history of achievement in female sport and the Women’s Rugby League team are keeping up that tradition. I travelled with the team to the finals and was impressed with the camaraderie off the pitch and the professional approach on the pitch.”
Nigel Johnson, the club’s head coach, added: “It’s fantastic that the women’s game has received this recognition from the St-Helens Council, and the work that the club and its volunteers do behind the scenes to get this on field success has been recognised by the Borough.”
This recognition of sporting achievement by women and girls sports will continue when the u16s St.Helens Girls, alongside their Widnes teammates, attend a civic reception at the Town Hall to officially recognise their u16s National Champion of Champion title.
