Roby Ready For World Cup

JAMES Roby says he is in good shape and ready to go as England prepare for their World Cup campaign.

Steve McNamara’s side will face Australia, Ireland and Fiji in their Group A pool.

“Every time I get picked for England it is a great honour,” he said. “It is obviously something different from being in a club environment and it makes a refreshing change to meet up new players from different teams. We have a good chance.

“It’s been a tough year for me with injury but I feel I am in good shape. I’ve had ankle problems but on the flipside I’ve had a lot of rest as a result. Physically I am feeling fit and fresh and hopefully I can use that to my advantage.

“I think it is definitely one of the strongest squads we’ve had for a while. There is strength in depth and there is an argument for a lot of the people that weren’t selected. That’s good for Steve McNamara as he has a lot of players challenging for places.

“Now we have to go out there and give a good account of ourselves.”

He continued: “Ever since it was announced that the World Cup would be in England I’ve been excited. Of course you concentrate on your club week in week out but it is always in the back of your mind because you have the desire to wear the jersey, represent your country and do everyone proud.

“Now we are meeting up it is more real and the intensity will step up ahead of that opening ceremony.”

Langtree Park will host Australia v Fiji on November 2 with an 8pm kick off. Adult tickets are available from just £10 with kids £5. You can buy here.
