FIJI launched their 2013 World Cup campaign in style on Monday night with an excellent 32-14 victory over Ireland at the Spotland Stadium, Rochdale in front of a sell-out crowd of nearly 9,000.
The Pacific Islanders started strongly before repelling an Irish fightback with some brutal defence.
Supported by a large contingent of the local Fijian community in the town, they ran in six tries with former Australian winger Akuila Uate registering a hat-trick as well as touch-downs from Kevin Naiqama, Tariq Sims and Korbin Sims.
The result sets-up a mouthwatering clash with the Kangaroos at Langtree Park this Saturday November 2 (KO 8pm) which is ure to be another bruising encounter and which will have huge impact on how the Group A standings will take shape.
