MAL Meninga hosted a special dinner at Langtree Park last night.
Close to 300 people heard stories from the legend’s past alongside teammates Neil Holding, Peter Gorley and Harry Pinner.
He also had a tour of the stadium with Club Chairman Eamonn McManus.
It was the first time he’d been to Langtree Park – although the Queensland State of Origin coach admits he’s seen it on TV a number of times.”It’s nice to be here at last,” he said, “as a guest of Eamonn and the club. I still follow the Saints so I’ve seen the venue on TV a number of times.
“I’m still embarrassed by the reaction of people in the town after so long. The club was great to me and my family. My only true regret in the game really is not coming back and having the chance to play for this club again.”
Mal signed special edition perspex depictions of his mural which is in the Totally Wicked North Stand. They are priced at £50 and only 50 were made. A few remain and will be in store today.
