AS well as backing all our Community Clubs, Saints also have a burgeoning Girls division.
Playing at Thatto Heath, Saints Girls have been going well this season and recently beat Wigan St Judes.
Laura Birchall writes:
“They went into the match optimistic and confident, despite the miserable weather. The game began with some tough tackles and strong defence from St Jude’s until Emily Hill broke the line of the defence leading to Jade Ward scoring the first try of the match.
“A further two tries in quick succession were scored by Pip Birchall and Jade Ward, before St Judes, reciprocated with their first try on the stroke of half time.
“Saints led 16-6 at half time with Pip Birchall adding two from three conversions.
“St Judes opened the second half with a try showing Saints they needed to remain composed and disciplined. A succession of strong defence from both sides created an exciting and thrilling game, but it was Danielle Hughes, for Saints Girls, who stepped into the corner to score a try.
“Both teams then exchanged tries, Saints Girls’ coming from Danni Platt but it was the final run along the wing from Rebecca Rotherham that sealed the win for the Saints Girls.
“It leaves the Girls top of their league table and within reach of the Champion of Champions tournament.”
Congratulations from all at Saints.
