MATTY Dawson is hoping Saints can change the record when they host Leeds this Friday.
Saints head into the game having lost the last three at Langtree Park – and that is something that needs to be rectified according to the centre / winger.
“Our home form isn’t good and it is something we need to change,” he said. “The fans have every right to go quiet when things don’t go right. A lot is expected of a team like Saints and when you’re not performing – and they are paying to watch – then they have a right to be quiet.
“We weren’t good against Catalans and Keiron (Cunningham) was rightfully critical of us. He was disappointed with the effort especially after the performance of the week before. We need to buck our ideas up.
“We may have players out but it doesn’t matter what age you are or your experience, you are expected to do a job. Part and parcel of being a St Helens player is you have to play well.
“Catalans have some quality players and played well – but we are a good side as well and have to prove it.”
Saints will have a chance to make amends when they host Champions Leeds on Friday.
And it’s a match-up Dawson is looking forward to.
“Leeds have two of the best centres in the comp in Joel Moon and Kallum Watkins and you always want to test yourself against the best,” he continued. “We have played them already this season and we know what they have to throw at us. The result against Hull will have perked them up and they won’t want to fall back into a slump. We have to be a speed bump along the way.
“They play off the cuff and once the game speeds up the likes of Rob Burrow and Zak Hardaker come into their own. We have to control the ruck.
“We need to find the solution we had in the Warrington game and if we take that forward then we should come out on top in most games.”
