Saints Cut ECU Ribbon

MEMBERS of a credit union gathered alongside two players from Saints this week, to celebrate the launch of a new branch of a popular Merseyside financial co-operative on the high street in St. Helens.

Dominique Peyroux and Joe Greenwood cut the ribbon in front of a crowd of enthusiastic members and invited guests of Enterprise Credit Union. Visitors then had the chance to be shown around the branch following its £250,000 redevelopment, escorted by Muriel McCreadie, the credit union’s chairperson.

Muriel McCreadie, chairperson of Enterprise Credit Union, said: “We’ve wanted to open a branch in St. Helens for a while now, as we have a strong member base in the surrounding areas. When the opportunity to buy a property on the high street came up, we took it immediately.

“Now, after months of redevelopment, we can finally open our doors, and who better to cut the ribbon than players from Saints.

“Opening this branch means we’ll be able to offer more and more people access to fantastic financial products from a community based co-operative.”

The credit union decided to open a St Helens branch after many local residents called for them to have a physical presence in the town. Through the credit union, people can save and borrow and ensure that their money stays within the community.

Karen Bennett, chief executive of Enterprise Credit Union, said: “Opening a new branch in St Helens marks a bright new chapter for both Enterprise Credit Union and the people of St Helens. The people of St Helens look out for one another, and a strong community really matters to them, so it’s the perfect place to bring our credit union.

“Existing members in St Helens will now have the newfound convenience of a local branch, and people looking to join will be able to do so simply and easily.

“More and more people are waking up to the benefits of joining a credit union as opposed to entrusting a high street bank with their savings, and more and more people are reaping the rewards. I’m hugely excited to grow our base in St Helens.”

Following the event for members this week, Enterprise Credit Union will be officially opening their doors on May 16 at 8 Hardshaw Street in St. Helens town centre, but are encouraging people to join online now.
