Roby Wants Swift Response

JAMES Roby admits Saints’ performance at the Magic Weekend was “below acceptable” and now they have to redress the balance.

Speaking after the game the hooker bemoaned the side’s inconsistency.

“We started the game well and got some tries in the second half to give us a little bit of hope but ultimately they were the far better team and deserved to win,” he said. “There were periods in the match when we needed a reaction to turn things around. That didn’t happen and it is something we have to work on.

“We have to remember we are a good team and when we play well we do take some stopping, but we are inconsistent.

“We have to do our job on the pitch. We knock out some victories and then lose – we have to string them together if we are to challenge at the top of the table.

“And that has to come soon.”

He continued: “Top spot is open to a number of teams. We have to knuckle down and work hard. I am always confident in this team’s ability and I know we are capable of winning the League Leaders’ Shield and getting to Old Trafford but we have to perform better. Our performance was below acceptable.

“We have to respond as there is nothing else we can do. We have done it before this season but we shouldn’t be in this position.

“We have put ourselves here now though and we have to work hard.”
