JON Wilkin says Widnes are one of the most difficult sides to break down in the competition – but they’ll be ready for the challenge on Friday.
Saints take on the Vikings in a vitally important Super League fixture as they seek to record their third win on the bounce.
“We had a couple of wins and although they have been a little scratchy in patches, they have been two very dogged performances,” he said. “Every game is big for us now and a run of performances is what’s in order. If we play well then results will take care of themselves.
“Widnes started the year exceptionally well and play with a lot of ball movement.
“In Kevin Brown, Rhys Hanbury and Joe Mellor they have some of the most dangerous attacking players in the competition. They always combine well and we will have to be attentive to deal with that threat.
“But what’s most impressive about them is their defence. They are very tidy and difficult to break down. They are competitive with the sides at the top of the comp because of that.”
He continued: “The competition is still tight and will be right up until the end of the Super 8s. Both sides are still pushing for the highest place finish possible and it will be a good match.”
