Justin Holbrook gave his thoughts after Saints were beaten 16-12 by Huddersfield.
“Obviously we didn’t want to be so far down but I still thought we could come back and win the game,” he said. “We had too many tired bodies. We did as best as we could to put Sunday behind us and come and lift tonight but too many guys couldn’t get up for it.
“We had have a lot of mentally and physically tired boys out there and when you’re mentally tired you make dumb errors. We did that in the first 25 minutes again and it is something we need to fix.
“Sunday was always going to knock us around a bit. It took a few days to get over it and clear our heads. We came with the right intentions but unfortunately we made a slow start and were down 16-0. We were five cm off scoring from a kick off but somehow we knock the ball on trying to play it.
“You can’t take anything from Huddersfield, they deserved to win but I didn’t think they looked a threat in the second half. Yet, they did enough to beat us.
“We have to keep working hard and bounce back next week. But I was disappointed not to win tonight.”
He continued: “There were some positives. Luke Thompson and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook were great. Louie has been great over the last month month too.
“The effort was there, we could have won, but it wasn’t good enough.”
