Luke Thompson returned to the line-up last Friday after an enforced absence – but it wasn’t a happy homecoming in the derby.
The big prop played in his first game since Round One of the Super 8s and admits whilst it was good to be back, the result wasn’t what anyone wanted.
“Obviously it was disappointing because we never like losing to Wigan,” he said. “But it’s one of those things, we weren’t good enough on the day and we just have to learn from it and move on.
“We knew the League Leaders’ Shield was there for the taking and it would have been nice to get it in front of our own fans. But it wasn’t to be on the day.
“We just wanted to focus on the game and obviously we just fell a bit short.
“We know could end up facing them again further down the line, so we’ll take it as a learning curve and try to crack on to make it right.
“We’re still six points clear and we’ve been the most consistent team all year for a reason. We’re not worried but we know we just have to kick on and try and get back to the form we’ve shown all year.”
After they ended Saints’ Wembley dream, Thompson hopes the team will be able to get a win in Catalans.
“That was obviously another disappointing one, but hopefully we can make that right this week and get a win over them in France,” he continued. “They did really well in winning the Challenge Cup and they’ve been a good team, so we’ll be trying to get the win against them this week.
“It’s always really tough going over there, so we’ll just prepare like we do every other week and try and right the wrongs from last week.
“We won over there earlier in the season and that was a really tough game. We were resilient that day so we have to go with same approach and attitude once more.
“They’ve got a good pack and we saw that at Bolton. They like coming up the middle, so we’ll have to be ready for that and be on our game to match up to them.”
