Thompson pleased to back up cup win with another victory

Luke Thompson was pleased how he helped Saints back up the win over Halifax in the Coral Challenge Cup with another victory, this time over Wakefield Trinity in the Betfred Super League on Friday night.

Thompson picked up Saints’ Man of the Match award voted by fans on our official Twitter account and like Head Coach Justin Holbrook admitted, he was delighted with how the Saints built on the win over Halifax to win again.

“It was really positive to back up last week’s cup win. The Semi-Final was a big game for us so to back it up against a Wakefield side who were really up for it tonight given the position they are in the league, it was a really good win.

“The first 10 minutes we soaked up pressure and stayed in the game and responded with a few tries.

“We’ve got two big games before we get to Wembley, but we are taking it week by week we are still going to turn up and give our best performance and we still have the League Leaders to play for and we need to win every game and train really hard to give our best.”

Saints will win the League Leaders shield for a second consecutive year if Warrington fail to beat Catalans in Perpignan on Saturday.
