Kevin Naiqama has scooped August's player of the month award after scoring five tries in five appearances which included a hat-trick in the win over Leeds Rhinos in round 26.
Naiqama joined the Saints at the start of the year and has impressed to date scoring 19 tries in 28 appearances and laying on a further six scores in his debut season.
During August he has helped Saints secure wins against Wakefield and Warrington scoring a try in each game, before picking up the Man of the Match award after the powerful centre bagged a hat-trick in the 36-20 win over Leeds Rhinos at Emerald Headingley.
Those performances has resulted in Naiqama being named August’s Player of the Month and upon receiving the award at this morning’s Stapleton Derby sponsored event, Kevin said: “I am pleased to win the award, but credit should go to the team who have helped me all year to feel at home here in St Helens. I am pleased with my recent form, but we as a team are fully focussed on tomorrow’s game with Hull FC and then the Super League playoffs.”
Justin Holbrook said of Naiqama’s performances: “Kevin has been tremendous all year, but he has particularly impressed in August with a number of very strong performances. He works hard on the field and off it and that has shown in his displays this season and he thoroughly deserves the Player of the Month award for August.”
Naiqama has been named in Saints’ 19 man squad ahead of our final regular season home match with Hull FC at the KCOM Stadium.
