St. Helens Rugby League Referees Society belongs to a wider branch of societies that aim to develop and recruit match officials of all ages within the sport.
Our members include officials serving at all levels of the game, from grass root matches through to being appointed at the highest level by the Rugby Football League including on the international stage. They have officiated at World Cup and World Club Finals and contribute to coaching and management throughout the game. In addition to this we have a wide range of experience within our team which is of great benefit to all members of the society as we strive to help each other to improve and develop.
Whether you are an experienced official, knowledgeable of the game through playing the sport, a spectator or just wanting to start officiating then there is always a warm welcome at St. Helens RLRS for you to get involved. Refereeing is challenging, that there is no doubt, but also extremely rewarding. St. Helens RLRS has a tried and tested development structure to aid your development and will help to support you. There is a place in the Society for match officials of all abilities and ambition levels so come and get involved, it will be the best thing you have done. A great majority of our officials provide service to the community leagues, which is often more openly appreciated by the teams involved than those at the higher levels and is undoubtedly the best way to learn.
As a Society we meet once per month and have welcomed an array of internationally renowned guest speakers. We also (Covid-19 permitting) run an outdoor training & development session every Monday at 7pm which is led by experienced officials and attended by members at different levels of the game. Our ethos is to develop generations of rugby league match officials at all levels of the game. If you want to get involved and officiate and not sure how, or want to participate in any other way email us and let us know; we will be happy to help or point you in the right direction.
We have a ‘virtual referee course’ on Wednesday 7th April between 7 and 9pm. It’s aimed at anyone wanting to support our towns community clubs’ by refereeing their very youngest people. Best of all it’s free, very rewarding and open to anyone wanting to give it a go.
