Veterans of The Foundation attended an Evensong on Sunday 18th April to reflect on the life of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

Veterans of The Foundation’s Paul Pennington attended the event which took place at the Liverpool Cathedral on Sunday.

The service was attended by community representatives and political and civic leaders from across Liverpool City Region.

The service was led by Dean of Liverpool the Very Revd Dr Sue Jones with the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, Mark Blundell and included personal reflections from Dame Lorna Muirhead.

There were prayers from the Archbishop of Liverpool – the Most Reverend Malcolm McMahon – and the Bishop of Liverpool – the Right Reverend Paul Bayes, along with representatives from other Merseyside faith communities each leading a prayer in their own tradition.

The event was attended by the Lord Mayor and Mayors of local boroughs, military and ex-service representatives, organisations including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Royal Mersey Yacht Club, Merseyside Scouts, Boys Brigade and local forces cadets.

Steve Leonard, Saints Community Development Foundations Director mentioned: “It was such a great honour to have The Veterans of The Foundation invited to such an event and no prouder veteran that Paul to represent us.

“He is a true Royalist and the pride he shows when on parade leaves you in no doubt at all that he is as proud as he was during his days in the armed forces to have served his Queen, his country and protected all we take for granted today”
