Saints impress on England debuts

Morgan Knowles scored on his England debut as he starred at prop despite a 24-26 defeat to the All Stars in a game which also saw Tommy Makinson impress on the wing.

Knowles, perhaps surprisingly, started at prop rather than his usual loose forward position on debut for England, but he certainly did not look out of place, powering his way over for his first try for his country.

Tommy Makinson was the only other Saint on duty, with Jack Welsby not making the 17. Makinson, like Knowles put in a solid performance and both looked to come through the game unscathed.

Knowles was effectively propping in place of Alex Walmsley, who was withdrawn earlier in the week. Saints half Jonny Lomax was also forced to withdraw yesterday.

SAINTS WOMEN

Before then eight Saints Women starred in England Women’s 60-0 victory over Wales in a game which saw Paige Travis and Beth Stott make their international debuts.

There were also plenty of Saints on the scoresheet as England Captain Emily Rudge got over for a brace, whilst Carrie Roberts, Jodie Cunningham and Tara Jones also bagged tries.
