April for St Helens Women

Our Saints Women return to action this month, find out all the information that you need to know here!

St Helens Women will finally get their 2023 campaign underway this month. For the first time in 210 days (almost seven months!), the Red V will take to the pitch tomorrow to take on Bradford Bulls at Crusader Park in Thatto Heath.

Bradford Bulls

The pre-season friendly allows new Head Coach, Matty Smith, the chance to evaluate members of his squad ahead of the 2023 campaign which starts later on in the month.

The two sides last clashed back in 2021, during Saints’ treble winning campaign. Saints won the game 86-0 at Warrington’s Victoria Park, the game that kickstarted the history making season!

You can view below some of the reaction to that big victory over Bradford last time out:

York Valkyrie

The Women’s Super League season will then start for the Red V two weeks later over in Yorkshire. York Valkyrie became the first team to beat Saints since 2019 with victory at the LNER Community Stadium last spring, beating the Saints 13-6.

The Saints were able to avenge that defeat later on in season however, with a strong 12-4 victory over the Valkyrie at Crusader Park. Zoe Harris and Tara Jones crossing to give the Saints two points on a warm Summer’s day.

Based off the two fixtures last season, it promises to be a tight affair between the two sides at the LNER Community Stadium just 15 days from now.

The game will be shown live on The Sportsman for those who cannot make the trip over to Yorkshire!

London Broncos

For the FIRST TIME EVER, St Helens Women will be travelling down to London to face the Broncos towards the end of April in the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup.

The Saints are looking to defend their title for the third consecutive season, following a 34-6 triumph against York in 2021 at Leigh Sports Village and a 18-8 victory over Leeds Rhinos in 2022 at Elland Road.

With the final this year at the iconic Wembley Stadium, the Saints Women will want to make sure they are in that game more than ever this Summer.
