Saints secured a dominant 40-0 victory over Catalans Dragons on Thursday evening at the Totally Wicked Stadium!
First Half
Within three minutes, we had a trip to the video referee. Tristan Sailor broke down the right wing and found George Whitby in support on his inside who raced towards the line and scored under the pressure. The try was given after a quick review and Whitby turned his four points into six with the conversion, 6-0 Saints led.

A second try quickly followed. The Red V kept the ball alive on the last tackle, Morgan Knowles flicked the ball out the back and Alex Walmsley burst through the Dragons line to score from close range. Whitby converted, 12-0.

The chances kept coming for Paul Wellens’ side. Curtis Sironen broke through a gap in the Catalans line and tried to offload to Daryl Clark but the ball went to ground and the visitors survived. Shortly after, Saints again kept the ball alive and Whitby tried a clever kick which forced the Dragons to concede a dropout.
Saints lost Matt Whitley to a HIA just after the midway point of the first half. He wasn’t to return to the game.
Catalans tried to fightback. They moved the ball down their right edge on the last tackle and Fouad Yaha put in a kick which Jack Welsby fumbled backwards before claiming but he was forced to concede a dropout. Saints challenged the decision and it was successful, as a Catalans player was offside from the kick.
Just before the break, Saints did have a third try. The hosts moved the ball well through the hands from right to left, Deon Cross threw a dummy and broke through the defence to grab his first try in Saints colours. Whitby converted, 18-0.

Second Half
Saints had the first chance of the second half. Sailor broke down the right edge, he tried kicking inside for Clark but Catalans recovered the loose ball first.
It wasn’t too much longer before Saints had a fifth try though. The Red V moved the ball through the hands down the right edge, Percival threw a great offload out the back to Sailor who scored in the corner. Whitby converted from the right touchline, 30-0.

Catalans then put a high kick up on the last tackle, Sailor competed for it with Tevita Pangai Jr with the Catalans man ruled to have knocked it on. The visitors challenged the decision but it was unsuccessful.
Saints then had another try. The hosts moved the ball through the hands down the left edge, Cross offloaded out of a tackle to find Lewis Murphy who finished spectacularly in the corner. Whitby narrowly missed the kick, 34-0.

Whitby grabbed his third try of the evening before the end of the game. Off the back of a penalty for a high shot on Whitby, Walmsley ripped through the middle of the Dragons defence and found an offload to Whitby who dove over from close range. He converted his own try, 40-0.

Catalans went short from the kick off and got the ball back. They spent a set on the Saints’ line but the Red V defence held firm, as Jordan Dezaria was held up on the last tackle.
Again the visitors looked to open their scoring for the night. A high, crossfield kick was dropped by Percival, Sailor did well to stop the visitors getting to the loose ball and scoring though, as Saints maintained their shutout.
