This week for the Saints

It is a Giant kind of week for St.Helens, with four of our teams to be face the Huddersfield Giants, three away and one at home.

St.Helens’ weekly fixture preview – This week for the Saints – is sponsored Joseph James Furniture Outlet.

Friday night starts off all the action, with our First Team heading over to the John Smith’s Stadium. On Saturday, our Reserves welcome the Giants to Thatto Heath for a home clash, followed by an away double header with our Women’s Academy and Women’s First Team going to Laund Hill in Huddersfield.

See the key information for all four matches below.

First Team vs Huddersfield Giants (A)

Paul Wellens men returned to winning ways in strong style last Thursday night against Catalans Dragons, beating the French side 40-0. The aim now is to build consistent, positive performances and results, with our next task taking us to West Yorkshire to face Huddersfield Giants.

The Red V are currently on an eleven-match winning run against the Giants, including the three  meetings last season.

Luke Robinson’s troops have been doing it tough so far in 2025 with a number of high profile injuries and only one win on the league table so far which came recently against Hull FC at Magic Weekend. In their last match on Saturday against table toppers Hull KR, the Giants did well to keep the score competitive for an hour before a last quarter blitz of points saw them lose out 34-0.

Back on home soil, with some senior players back and out to earn their first home win of the year, the Giants will be a tough challenge on Friday night.

  • Friday, 23rd May 2025

Reserves vs Huddersfield Giants (H)

Our only home game of the week, but it will be played at Thatto Heath Crusaders, with free entry for supporters!

Ian Talbot’s young Saints Reserves side will be out to make amends after suffering a heavy away loss to high-flying Warrington, 48-12, last time out.

The Red V Reserves have two wins to their record so far in 2025 and will be eager to make it three when the Giants come to town for Round 7 of the Reserves Championship. Please note, the Round 6 clash against was postponed to take place in June.

Women’s Academy vs Huddersfield Giants (A)

One week removed from their first competitive fixture, our Under 19s Women’s Academy team are back in action but hit the road for the first time in 2025.

For Game 2 of the twelve round season Graham Cranny’s St.Helens team will go to Laund Hill to take on Huddersfield Giants.

Last Saturday saw our developing players fall short in the second half as Leeds Rhinos got a roll on for a strong away victory. We will be out to improve, do better and aim for a win.

  • Sunday, 25th May 2025
  • Kick-off at 11am
  • Huddersfield YMCA RUFC, Laund Hill, HD3 3XF
  • Entry is £8 for Adults – £3 for Under 16s

Women’s vs Huddersfield Giants (A)

After scratching and clawing back a dramatic 20-20 draw against Leeds Rhinos to kick-off the 2025 Betfred Women’s Super League season, St.Helens Women head to Huddersfield for the second act of a women’s double header.

The Saints were left to rue some of their own errors in the league opener, and could have snatched a victory but it was not to be against a Rhinos side that were resilient and looked to respond strongly to their Challenge Cup exit.

With Wembley on the horizon too, Craig Richards & Derek Hardman will be looking for players to step up and build form, and also earn our first league victory of the season.

  • Sunday, 25th May 2025
  • Kick-off at 2pm
  • Huddersfield YMCA RUFC, Laund Hill, HD3 3XF
  • Entry is £8 for Adults – £3 for Under 16s
