Saints squad to go to the Giants

St.Helens Head Coach Paul Wellens has announced his 21-man squad for this Friday night's Betfred Super League match against Huddersfield Giants, which takes place at the John Smith's Stadium and kicks off at 8pm.

St.Helens First Team 21-man squad announcement is sponsored by St Helens Flooring.

The Saints are back on the road and go over to West Yorkshire to take on Huddersfield for the first time in the 2025 season.

Wellens’ men are in a brighter mood after a strong performance over Catalans Dragons last Thursday evening, winning 40-0. Now, their aim is to build positive consistent form and progress higher up the league table.

Our Saints will be driven to keep a winning run rolling over the Giants, having won the last eleven meetings. Last season, the Saints met the Giants on three occasions, twice away winning 0-28 in February and 10-18 in September. The home match at the Totally Wicked Stadium in April was settled by a single point, with club captain Jonny Lomax kicking a drop goal in the dying moments of the game.

Luke Robinson’s Giants have been doing it tough so far in 2025 with a number of high profile injuries and only one win on the league table so far which came recently against Hull FC at Magic Weekend. In their last match on Saturday against table toppers Hull KR, the Giants did well to keep the score competitive for an hour before a last quarter blitz of points saw them lose out 34-0.

Back on home soil, with some senior players back and out to earn their first home win of the year, the Giants will be a tough challenge on Friday night.

Paul Wellens will provide an update on his squad following last Thursday’s match and looking ahead to this coming Friday’s with his weekly press conference scheduled for this afternoon. Saints TV subscribers will be able to watch in full later on today.

📰 SQUAD NEWS

Coach Wellens makes just a single change to the squad that got the victory last time out against Catalans Dragons, with Matt Whitley failing his Head Injury Assessment on the night and must now be stood down to follow protocols.

Stepping into the squad selection is young back-rower Jake Davies, named for the first time in the 2025 Betfred Super League campaign.

The 18-year-old, and younger brother Ben Davies, has progressed through our Scholarship and Academy programmes before becoming a member of our First Team squad for the first time in 2025. If selected to play, Davies would make his official St.Helens debut.
