The second Academy Origin fixture of the season is to be played on Saturday, 2nd August 2025.
Unfortunately, Saints’ Oscar Knox has sadly suffered a pectoral injury which means he will be unavailable for selection, and we wish Oscar the very best with his injury rehabilitation.
It does mean that Oliver Polec has been called into the Lancashire side, joining six of his Saints teammates in the Red Rose team. Those young men are: Matthew Evans, Oliver Garmston, Tom Humphreys, Billy Keeley, Kian McGann and Alife Tate.
Saints Academy’ Chris Matagi is in contention to play for the Yorkshire team too.
Both Lancashire and Yorkshire has been forced into making changes ahead of the fixture, which will be played at Hull KR’s Sewell Group Craven Park.
Knox is one of four Lancashire players who have been ruled out, two coming from Warrington – Flynn Holden and Kian Stanton, and one from Wigan – Finlay Yeomans.
Polec is joined by Salford’s Sam Hill and Wigan pair Lewis Daniels and Samuel Dickinson to complete the Lancashire squad.
Yorkshire meanwhile have been forced into one change, with Lewis Jagger from Huddersfield Giants replacing Jacob Hardy of Leeds.
Wigan’s Shane Eccles will be head coach of Lancashire with assistants Ryan O’Brien of Warrington and James Simpson MBE – a member of England’s Wheelchair World Cup winning squad in 2022 who has been head coach of Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair team for the last two seasons since retiring as a player. Castleford’s Rob Nickolay will be head coach of Yorkshire with Huddersfield Giants stalwart Leroy Cudjoe again assisting alongside Matt Nicholson of Wakefield.
Each squad will also have a distinguished former player in a new role as mentor – Luke Gale for Yorkshire, and the Saints’ Academy Assistant Coach Gary Wheeler for Lancashire.
Sewell Group Craven Park will host an Origin double-header on Saturday, 2nd August, as the Women’s Origin fixture will follow the second men’s Academy Origin fixture of the year.
TICKET INFORMATION
Tickets for the event will be priced at £5 for Adults and £2 for Concessions.
The men’s Academy match will kick off at midday, with the Women’s match at 2pm – and both will be streamed live on the RFL YouTube channel.
