St.Helens Head Coach Paul Wellens has named his 21-man squad that will face Castleford Tigers on Friday, 1st August at the Totally Wicked Stadium, which kicks off at 8pm.
St.Helens First Team 21-man squad announcement is sponsored by St Helens Flooring.
The Tigers come to town for their first of two visits to the home of the Saints in 2025. That second meeting is scheduled for the final regular season round in September; however the date for the Round 27 fixture is yet to be 100% confirmed.
Focusing on Round 20, Paul Wellens’ men went into the week without action after a home defeat to the in-form Leigh Leopards. The result ended a five-match winning run, and pushed St.Helens into fifth place in the league ladder. However, positions in the top six are tight and following the first week of the split round, a win for the Red V over the Tigers would leapfrog Leeds into fourth place.
Chris Chester is now Interim Head Coach of Castleford following the departure of Danny McGuire. The Tigers last time out earned possibly their most important victory of the season, beating Warrington at home by 20-14.
In Round 2, back in February, Wellens’ men ran riot and and got a big 6-46 victory at The Jungle. Our Saints are looking to make it home and away wins over the Tigers in 2025, and get back to winning ways as we head into the later stages of the Super League campaign.
Paul Wellens is holding his weekly press conference this afternoon, where he will give the latest news on his St.Helens squad. Saints TV subscribers will be able to watch it in full.
SQUAD NEWS
Coach Wellens makes a number of changes to the squad he last declared for Betfred Super League action a fortnight ago, with Daryl Clark and Jake Burns both back available after following head injury protocols which left them unavailable for our last match.
Joe Batchelor is also back in the 21-man squad, after getting match minutes under his belt with our Reserves side in a big win over Leigh Leopards.
The Saints who step out of our side are Jon Bennison who has linked up with Widnes Vikings on loan – read more on that by clicking here. Youngster Jake Davies is the other Saint that comes out of the squad this time.
Leon Cowen who made his debut in the Red V’s last Super League fixture retains his place in Wellens’ 21-man squad.
