Alex Walmsley scored a cracking try on Sunday but the big forward was just glad it turned the tide against Catalans.
Taking a pass from James Roby, the 27-year-old went nearly 50 metres – although that is likely to be much greater when he recalls the four-pointer – and rounded fullback Tony Gigot.
“It was certainly closer to 85,” he said, “but I don’t like to boast. I don’t bag many but it is always nice to score one, especially when it is a nice one like that. I enjoyed it.
“We had a shaky start and that try got us going a little bit and got us back to the gameplan.
“We knew Catalans would be physical and they would want to go into the middle 8s with a head of steam. Steve McNamara has got them playing to a new structure and we knew it would be a dangerous game.
“But I thought, considering how important the game to us was, we didn’t approach it, in the earlier stages, as a big game. It is something we need to learn from.”
He continued: “Wakefield on Sunday is a big game. They are flying and we need to close that gap to the top four. It is the biggest game of the season for us.
“We’re looking forward to it. We have new systems that are working for us and are playing well. They are a dangerous side though so we have to learn the lessons of Sunday and move on.”
