Wright joins Saints on loan following Hurrell de-registration

St.Helens can confirm back-rower Shane Wright has joined the Club on loan for the remainder of the 2025 Betfred Super League season.

The towering Australian forward joins the Red V from Salford Red Devils following the de-registration of the beloved fan favourite Konrad Hurrell.

The Club would like to put on record our profound thanks to Konrad for his understanding and help in allowing this move to take place.

Konrad Hurrell is proudly sponsored at the Saints by Breath For Healing.

During his time with the Saints, Hurrell played his part in our team earning; the 2022 League Leaders’ Shield, the 2022 Super League title, and the 2023 World Club Challenge. His try-scoring efforts in both the Grand Final and the World Club Challenge will live long in the memory. Supporters will get their chance to thank Konrad at our final home match of the season.

As Wright joins St.Helens on loan, the Club would also like to say thank you to Salford Red Devils Director Paul King for his work in helping facilitate the deal.

Wright has been with Salford since the 2022 season and has been a consistent performer. At six feet, two inches tall, the back-rower has shown utility value by playing in the front row too, chalking up 61 appearances and scoring eight tries. In the 2024 campaign, he appeared in all but two matches as the Red Devils finished in fourth place, featuring in the Play-Offs.

Before his move to the Super League, Wright played for NRL side North Queensland Cowboys where he was named Rookie of the Year in 2019, and in 2020 helped the Townsville side win the NRL Nines. As he progressed during his early professional career, he also featured on loan for the Mackay Cutters.

Thrilled to be joining the Saints on loan, Shane Wright said: “I’m so excited to get to work with the boys. I’ve had some really great conversations with Wello [Paul Wellens] and I can’t wait to work with him and the fellow coaching staff.

“I know how prestigious a club that St.Helens is, so to come and join this team, I am truly buzzing about it.”

Head Coach Paul Wellens added: “Koni is such a larger-than-life character, one that we have loved being part of our club, and we truly thank him for his efforts as a Saint. We wish him, Bec, and the kids all the best with their next chapter when it comes.

“As for Shane, we are delighted to bring him into the Club on loan until the end of the season. I am more than certain he will add a lot to our team.”
