Saints went down to defeat on Wednesday evening after an enthusiastic Wolves outfit came out on top after a 34-24 victory at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

The visitors were first on the scoresheet as the hooker dove over at dummy half, before the Saints galvanised themselves after a big defensive set in their own 10 metre area culminated in a Wolves error.

Daniel Ganson then instigated the Saints first attacking threat going blind on the last, feeding Ben O’Donnell who went 30 metres down the right. As he tried to keep the ball alive he found a Wolves player and the chance was gone.

But two tackles later the Saints had forced the error earning themselves a scrum on the Wolves 20 metre line. Rio Corkhill, Taylor Pemberton and Cole Appleby were all stopped short before the ball was passed left for the impressive Kian Naylor to go in for the try.

From the kick off the visitors again knocked on, but the saints were unable to repeat their try scoring exploits as slow ball movement to the left saw Shay Martyn bundled into touch.

The Saints then compounded this poor play by giving away a penalty and then taking a dummy to allow the Wolves loose forward to go 40 metres to the posts.

With eight minutes to go to the break the visitors extended their lead as the loose forward again went through a gap in the line.

With half time looming the Saints gave themselves a lifeline as good drives from O’Donnell and Pemberton saw Cole Appleby charge onto the ball for the first time and barge his way over.

The Saints needed to score first, but before many fans had come back from their half time breaks the visitors  extended their lead taking advantage of a dropped bomb.

Empowered by the efforts of Naylor, MacKenzie Buckley and the highly impressive Kalan Devine the Saints then scored twice in three minutes to level things up.

First Pemberton touched down his own short grubber direct from the play the ball after Reece Sumner was held short.

Then Sumner, showing more of the powerhouse running from the previous game,  scored himself after two great Devine runs.

The game turned on a missed Saints try. Ganson took a great inside ball and scooted 50 metres. With the full back approaching he lofted an inside pass over the cover only to see it dropped by Daniel Moss with the line begging.

The Wolves went straight down the other end, forced a repeat set as Zac Whitehead was pushed behind his own line after taking the last tackle bomb and then scored another soft try plunging over from a play the ball at the line.

The visitors completed victory with their 6th try again from a repeat set with Ciaran Moody  going over.
